David Healy: Options are open to me for the future

Friday, 4 September 2009

I know there was a lot of discussion and debate about my club future over the last few weeks, especially with the transfer window coming to a close.

I am also aware that some are surprised that I didn’t leave Sunderland before the 5pm deadline on Tuesday.

There were a few possibilities for me, one of which was Coventry City.

I spoke to the Coventry manager Chris Coleman, but in the end I decided to stay put.

In relation to my situation at Sunderland I still have two years left on my contract and have continually said that I am happy to fight for my place. What has been forgotten about in the rush to get deals done is that the loan window opens shortly, so I have options.

For now though all my energy and focus is on Northern Ireland and our World Cup qualifying campaign.

I am a sky blues fan and would love to see DH leading our attack. He would fit in well, as we need someone to score goals. We create a lot of chances, but are lacking that final bit of the jig saw. DH would fit in well with the lads and knows Sammy Clingan, who's doing really well for us at the moment. There's a big NI community here in the midlands, so DH would get massive support. The club is crying out for a new hero, and as with NI, he would be the main man .. come on David Healy, if Steve Bruce wont play you, this could be your finest move yet .. lead us back to the 'promised land' .. Healy, Healy, Healy, Healy!

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

Unusually for Fabio Capello, a man who owns some highly valued pieces of art but is not given to too many flights of poetic fancy, he once said that he had a dream. It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
