David Healy: Rangers blew it

Friday, 6 November 2009

Rangers had a fantastic chance to get themselves back into contention in their Champions League group this week.

Now though they may not make it into the Europa League. And sadly they only have themselves to blame.

I thought they had done all the hard work on Wednesday leading Unirea Urziceni thanks to Lee McCulloch’s goal only for them to throw it away.

What Nacho Novo was thinking when he tried to play a 50 yard ball instead of keeping possession in the last few minutes was anyone’s guess.

It was criminal and allowed Unirea to pick up possession and go on to equalise.

Rangers needed to be a bit more professional and see the game out.

It was such a pity because I thought the Gers had played really well and had done enough to gain what would have been a big victory.

I fear now that any hopes of another great run in Europe are well and truly over.

Gary Neville could be key to Wayne Rooney's form at Euros

You might have thought that ruling yourself out of the first two games of football's second most important international tournament with a shocking flash of irresponsibility was quite enough to focus the mind of the nation's most gifted player.
