David Healy: Savage just keeps on surprising

Friday, 12 March 2010

It was funny seeing Robbie Savage playing in goal for Derby County against Reading this week.

These days an outfield player hardly ever has to go into goal because there is a goalkeeper on the bench, but when one gets injured and the other sent off, it’s time to call for the crazy guy to go between the sticks.

And for Derby that was Savage.

If it happened at Ipswich Town I doubt I would get the call because I’m not the biggest, though when I was a kid I loved being the goalie and thought I was pretty good at it.

As for Savage, not exactly a favourite amongst Northern Ireland fans, from the highlights I saw, he seemed to do alright making one fine save in particular.

Maybe Robbie has found his position!

Gary Neville could be key to Wayne Rooney's form at Euros

You might have thought that ruling yourself out of the first two games of football's second most important international tournament with a shocking flash of irresponsibility was quite enough to focus the mind of the nation's most gifted player.
