David Healy: Tevez’s celebrations a slap in face to United fans
Friday, 22 January 2010
If the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final between Manchester City and Manchester United is anything like the first, we are in for a cracker.
The rivalry between the two clubs seems even more intense these days and all the controversy surrounding Carlos Tevez’s celebrations will add to it before the game at Old Trafford next week.
I know that Tevez was annoyed by the comments of Gary Neville ahead of the clash at Eastlands, but I was still disappointed with how he celebrated his two goals.
Fair enough, he obviously wanted to make a point to Neville and Sir Alex Ferguson, but it’s worth remembering the United fans were desperate for him to stay.
How many times did you hear the chant “Fergie, Fergie, sign him up,” last season.
The United supporters idolised him and his celebrations were a bit of a slap in the face for them.
I doubt Carlos will get a good reception at Old Trafford in the return.
It’s bubbling up and the game on Wednesday will have an electric atmosphere.
I believe United will edge it, maybe in extra-time, though it wouldn’t surprise me if the tie went to a penalty shoot-out.
