Declan Bogue: Crossmaglen in cruise control following All-Ireland triumph
When you are All-Ireland champions your skin glows and you grow a few inches.
Teams take to the field against you already beaten and not looking forward to the ordeal of actually going through the whole grisly process.
Last weekend, All-Ireland champions Crossmaglen Rangers played Granemore and defeated them 2-10 to 0-9.
Their co-manager Tony McEntee has opted to stay in charge for another year alongside Gareth O’Neill, but the players will not be returning to training for a while yet.
In the meantime, the Armagh League continues with teams taking their shot at the champs. Maghery beat them a fortnight ago, but last weekend Cross were struggling for numbers and McEntee himself togged out.
Anyone observing his lean frame since retirement, and knowing how well the McEntee twins kept themselves throughout their playing days, will not be surprised to learn that he acquitted himself more than impressively.
In the meantime, Gareth O’Neill has been watching games from the stand, their record since the start of the league stretching to four wins from five games.
Wait until they start taking it seriously again.
