As promised, the Ulster Ravens side to face Munster ‘A’ this afternoon at Musgrave Park is a mixture of senior squad members and Academy starlets.

And today’s Cork date sees a welcome return for flanker, David Pollock, now almost fully recovered from hip surgery, which has kept him out of the season so far.

Fellow-forwards include senior trio Ryan Caldwell, Tamaiti Horua and Declan Fitzpatrick.

High performance Academy pair Paddy McAllister and Adam Macklin, and Club and Development duo Chris Napier and Neil McComb complete the forward eight.

Phoenix Ulster Academy high performance player Jamie Smith, who played for the Seniors in their pre-season warm-up against Viadana, starts at full-back, with fellow-group member Tommy Seymour on the left wing.

Senior star, Timoci Nagusa, is named in the wide right berth.

In the centre Jonny Sheils pairs up with Ian Whitten, with Niall O'Connor and Cillian Willis wearing numbers ten and nine respectively.

Academy member Chris Cochrane is another who, like Pollock, is returning after surgery and rehabilitation, in his case following knee ligament damage suffered in the pre-season.

On this occasion he starts on the bench.

Ulster Ravens: Jamie Smith; Timoci Nagusa, Johnny Sheils, Ian Whitten, Tommy Seymour; Niall O'Connor, Cillian Willis; Patrick McAllister, Declan Fitzpatrick, Adam Macklin; Neil McComb, Ryan Caldwell; Chris Napier, David Pollock, Tamaiti Horua.

Replacements: Ryan Fisher, Justin Fitzpatrick, John Burns, Alistair Birch, Ian Porter, Luke Marshall, Chris Cochrane.

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

Unusually for Fabio Capello, a man who owns some highly valued pieces of art but is not given to too many flights of poetic fancy, he once said that he had a dream. It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
