Funny-man Lee a serious force
Having taken five TT replicas away from this year's Isle of Man TT and the coveted Privateers' Championship, Fermanagh's Lee Johnston must surely be starting to register on the radar of many top teams for 2014.
But as always, the Norman Wisdom look-a-like, who is ironically one of the funniest guys in the road racing paddock, is as pragmatic as ever, despite a best lap of 126.358mph – on a motorcycle he purchased on Ebay just days before TT2013 got underway.
"We bought the wee bike on the Tuesday, " he said referring to the Honda Fireblade Superstock machine, which earned him three of his TT replicas. "We collected it on Wednesday, and the first time I sat my backside on it was going down Bray Hill on the Saturday," he added.
Johnston collected a personally engraved bespoke Graham of London watch, worth £6,000, for his efforts as top newcomer, but with a mischievous glint in his eye he joked: "I asked Paul Phillips [TT Motorsport Development Manager] where the box was, as I couldn't sell it on Ebay without it."
Johnston started the season with Millsport Racing in the British Superstock series, but is currently on the sidelines having been replaced buy Tristan Palmer.
