New Zealander Carlos Spencer followed a long line of southern hemisphere stars who have rubbished northern hemisphere rugby . . . after they had been paid handsome sums for years by clubs in Britain, Ireland or France. Brave that!
Spencer, who left Gloucester to join the Lions Super 14 outfit based in Johannesburg, condemned the rugby in the northern hemisphere as “much slower” and “pretty negative”.
Maybe the north had the last laugh, though. Spencer was so ordinary on his Super 14 debut for the Lions last weekend he was substituted after barely 40 minutes!
