Ards can win the Championship One title on Thursday night if they beat Knockbreda.

In fact, they could even be crowned champions tonight if second-placed H&W Welders lose at Dergview.

Their reward is a financially lucrative one, booking a golden ticket into the Danske Bank Premiership.

Their long suffering fans who have travelled far and wide to watch the team will say the club belongs in the top-flight and the Premiership will certainly be a more exciting product with them in it.

For me, Ards are a proper football club - a club with a strong fan base and rich European history.

It would be fantastic to see them back in the Premiership and it would also be wonderful for the Newtownards area. Manager Niall Currie will be able to continue his rebuilding with, possibly, a bigger budget but I would be mostly delighted for the fans who have kept the club in business during really tough times.

Ards are one of a number of clubs still in business because loyal supporters weren't prepared to watch it die.
