Bannsiders in for Ard time

By Scott Young

Published 15/12/2015

Ards may be underdogs in tonight's League Cup semi-final against Coleraine, but the Championship side, having come this far, will fancy their chances.

The first goal will be crucial. If Ards get it, their confidence will soar and they will have something to hold on to.

Should Coleraine go in front they can take control of the game and I believe their extra class would tell. Semi-finals are exciting, but difficult, games to play in because defeat in them can be even harder to take that normal.

If you lose you miss out on a big day, live TV coverage and the chance to win a trophy.

Experience counts in games like this. Coleraine have good young talented players, but it will be an old head like Steven Douglas who will be vital for them this evening.

He knows what it takes to win these types of games. I recall matches between Glentoran and Portadown when he was right-back for the Ports. He never shut up. I'm sure he will be the same tonight and even louder if Coleraine win.

In the other semi-final Cliftonville will beat Warrenpoint.
