Daly's move to Rangers move a sign of the times

Jon Daly has signed for Rangers

Jon Daly has become the first Irish Catholic to sign for Rangers.

Essentially it slipped under the radar, which is hopefully an encouraging sign in the battle against bigotry in Scottish football.

I can't imagine the publicity such a signing would have attracted in years gone by, but the progress being made in society means football is the winner here.

Ally McCoist has been scouring the SPL for players to get Rangers back to the top flight and Daly is his latest addition.

I feel Jon's best years are behind him, meaning he will be a short term signing to progress Rangers through the lower divisions and nothing more.

McCoist must see his experience as a crucial ingredient to his younger players, which was lacking at times last season.
