For the second season in a row a manager with Ulster connections has won the Scottish Communities League Cup.
Danny Lennon, who won “B” caps with us, guided St Mirren to the trophy for the first time in the club's history, beating Hearts 3-2 to follow in the footsteps of Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels.
I always feel when either half of the Old Firm is not in the final the games are more open and competitive and Sunday’s showpiece proved that point. It was a cracker.
Danny has served his time in management, climbing the lower leagues with Cowdenbeath and has fully deserved his success. Having spoken to him after the final, I can tell you he's extremely proud. And rightly so. His triumph shows that hard work does pay off.
