Kenny Shiels blazes a trail with youth

There's little doubt Kilmarnock's season tailed off a bit after they failed to secure a coveted top six place in the SPL.

Kenny Shiels' men managed to win only one of their last five matches and finished ninth but on the upside he's given game time to a lot of his younger players which is vital for their careers and the club in the long term.

Kenny revealed earlier in the season that Kilmarnock wanted to promote from within their academy over the next few seasons and that it was crucial to the Rugby Park outfit being self-sustainable.

The emergence of some top young talent, which includes Northern Ireland U21 star Jude Winchester, will have Kenny looking forward to the new season already.

The key to it all though is to balance the side with good experienced players who set a good example to the youth.
