Stephen Craigan: Elgin mess shows importance of Rangers promotion

The worst kept secret convince their number one target to take the post and lead from the front, unlike themselves over the last few painful weeks?

When the news broke that the Rangers game at Elgin on Sunday was postponed my immediate thought was weather conditions.

When it was then discovered they had oversold tickets and put fans safety at risk it was very disturbing.

Scottish football has been through enough in recent months without this issue raising its head.

Elgin have clearly shown they aren’t capable of hosting a big game and it’s just another example of why manager Ally McCoist and Rangers need to be back in the top flight for the sake of the fans and for the sake of the game.

It’s the Elgin players who I feel for.

This was possibly the biggest game of their lives and all because of incompetence they missed the chance to beat the Glasgow giants and go top of the league.
