Stephen Craigan: Painful viewing and a reality check for Rangers

For the Rangers fans, Saturday's defeat to Dundee United in the Scottish Cup would have been painful viewing.

The positive for many, though, was they didn't pay to watch it due to their boycott!

In all seriousness it would have been a reminder of how far the club are from even contemplating a return to the SPL, especially with the current squad.

Granted, Dundee United are one of the better top flight sides but Rangers performed like a side team have been playing in the third division and defended like a team from division three also. It wasn't pretty.

Ally McCoist was seething after the match and rightly so, but it might just remind some players the climb back to the top may not be as plain sailing as they think.
