Steven Beacom: A great Laff in Poland and Healy is smiling too

Kyle Lafferty was magnificent on Saturday night.

Until his unfortunate injury, he tortured the Polish defence.

It was a brilliant all-round forward display from the Fermanagh man, capped off with a well taken goal.

Strike partner David Healy wasn't far behind him. He was superb.

Healy's position in the starting line-up has been questioned lately. Not by me. I'd always play him.

And not just because he is revered as the most fantastic finisher in our history, but because he also happens to be a fine footballer. Healy's a clever player and showed that at the weekend, linking well with the midfield and winning pressure-easing free-kicks.

He didn't get any chances in Chorzow, but his all round game certainly answered a few critics.

Hopefully opportunities will come on Wednesday night against Slovakia. There is nothing the Windsor Park crowd loves more than a Healy strike. They might just get their wish.
