Steven Beacom: First big test for Nelson to tackle

The violence inside and outside Upton Park on Tuesday night was disgraceful.

The Football Association have started a stringent investigation and plan to deal with it as quickly as possible.

It will be interesting to see if they act quicker in terms of punishment than the Irish FA in sorting out the Shamrock Park shambles earlier this month.

It was Saturday week ago that alarmingly Portadown and Glentoran fans invaded the pitch following Gary Hamilton’s late winner for the east Belfast men.

You would like to think that the IFA will soon announce their findings and punishments.

They are in a race against time now with the English FA, and even have a 10 day start.

You could say it’s the first test for new IFA Chief Executive Patrick Nelson. I’ll be interested to see if he and the IFA pass it.
