Steven Beacom: My top 10 golfers
Thursday, 23 July 2009
I felt for Tom Watson at the weekend. Had the 59-year-old sunk that putt at the last to win The Open at Turnberry, it would have been one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time.
In honour of that, I’ve decided to compile the top 10 golfers in my time, not necessarily my favourites, but those who I feel have been the best.
Legends like Gary Player and Arnold Palmer are ruled out as I haven’t seen enough of them while I’m gutted to omit Bernhard Langer and Jose Maria Olazabal.
If I do this in another 10 years I would think Rory McIlroy would be in there.
Anyway, here goes:
1. Jack Nicklaus
2. Tiger Woods
3. Seve Ballesteros
4. Nick Faldo
5. Tom Watson
6. Lee Trevino
7. Raymond Floyd
8. Ernie Els
9. Phil Mickelson
10. Padraig Harrington

One of your selections I disagree with you Steven, the rest are first class in my humble opinion. However No.4 Out completely !
Anyone who insists on his full title appearing on Draw Sheets, Programmes, Leader Boards, etc. etc. is certainly not a good advert for golf in general and the professionals, in particular.
SIR Nick Faldo may have been a good player in his day but now he is but a plonker and many associated with game will agree. Replace him with a great player and gentleman to boot: Arnold Palmer
