Steven Beacom: Premiership heading for big finish

You have to love the Carling Premiership title race this season.

It’s not the usual two horse race. In fact at last count, I’d say FIVE teams were involved.

Obviously you have the Big Two, Glentoran and Linfield, Cliftonville, Crusaders and Coleraine, with Rory Patterson scoring goals for fun. Apologies to fifth placed Dungannon Swifts. You’ve no chance, but have done so well in the league this season you must feel like champions.

League leaders Cliftonville are playing attractive, confident football but Eddie Patterson’s side have challenged in the championship race before, only to bottle it in the end.

I sense it will be all in the mind for them in the run-in. Win the mental battle and they could win a fascinating title war.
