Steven Beacom: United they stand
Monday, 21 November 2011
Manchester City won once again at the weekend — overcoming a stubborn Newcastle side 3-1.
They look invincible on the domestic front at present.
Let’s face it, they look like champions. Don’t forget about Manchester United though.
Since being embarrassed by City to the tune of a 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford last month, United have steadied the ship winning three league games in a row against Sunderland, Everton and latterly Swansea on Saturday.
Each time they have won 1-0.
United are renowned for their entertaining football, but in times of trouble what Sir Alex Ferguson does is make them functional rather than fabulous. And it gets results.
City have been the team of the season, but they are only five points clear of United who refuse to go away.
It will be two points soon because United will beat Newcastle on Saturday before City play again.
That’s at Liverpool on Sunday when for a change all United fans will be cheering on Kenny Dalglish’s men.
