The Punter: Elliott’s Plan A will work

Whatever the Irish total on the week, they have their best chance of Festival winners today.

Big Zeb and Sizing Europe are not without major chances in the Champion Chase but look for the pints of Guinness to be raised in salute in other races.

The day begins with the National Hunt Chase and the main Irish challenge comes from Charles Byrnes and Gordon Elliott with their respective charges Alfa Beat and Chicago Grey.

Chicago has plenty of experience, including at Cheltenham. Alfa Beat is a grey who won five on the trot last summer and then won the Kerry National.

He gets the vote.

Elliott can strike in the Fred Winter Juvenile with Plan A, but oppose the Irish in the bumper race with Knight Pass who is the apple of Lambour trainer Warren Greatrex's eye.
