The race for the Grand Prix Drivers’ Championship is building up to a crescendo with only 24 points separating five drivers.
That’s equivalent to less than one victory with five races to go.
Mark Webber (187) who leads Lewis Hamilton by five points, is rated the 15-8 favourite to be champion despite only picking up eight points for sixth place in the Italian Grand Prix.
Hamilton’s mistake on the first lap at Monza proved costly but, at 3-1, he is far from out of contention.
Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate and defending champion Jenson Button is back in fourth on 165 points after his second to Fernando Alonso last Sunday while ante-post market leader Sebastian Vettel is only two points further adrift.
Every point will be vital from now until the final race in Abu Dhabi on November 14. Button, at 16-1, is the outsider of the chasing pack with Alonso and Vettel both quoted at 4-1. The show moves on to Singapore next week when the picture at the top may change again.
