The Punter: Frankel the unbeatable

Looking down the long road into 2012, there will be innumerable betting opportunities, but one that stands out on the racing front is Ladbrokes's 7-4 offered on Frankel to remain unbeaten

Listening to Sir Henry Cecil, he says the European champion miler will be even better as a four-year-old and if that's the case, it will take one heck of a performance to lower Frankel's colours.

The horse must run three times to make the bet valid, but barring injury, there should be no problems on that score as he will be campaigned in all the top races from a mile to a mile and a quarter.

He was a consummate winner of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot and the best 2000 Guineas winner seen in more than half a century.

Add in the Sussex Stakes and St James's Palace Stakes to his unbeaten run of nine races, and it's easy to see why he will be Flat racing's focus of attention once again.

Frankel will start in Newbury's Lockinge Stakes, which should be a mere exercise for him, on his way to Royal Ascot and will then move up to 10 furlongs in the Eclipse and Juddmonte Stakes before heading to the Breeders' Cup in America.

The latter is where he would be most vulnerable but his chance of ending his career on an undefeated note is certainly second to none.

Paul Nicholls, the champion trainer, is not afraid to give his 17-year-old nephew Harry Denham his chance in handicap races, especially with a valuable 7lb claim.

The teenager is bound to come in for some good rides at the Cheltenham Festival, especially in conditional races, and the 4-1 offered by Betfred for him to ride a winner there in March looks well worth taking.
