Tyrone Howe: Kidney has failed to reward players in real form
Thursday, 26 January 2012
Brian McLaughlin used the word ‘conservative’ to describe Declan Kidney’s
recent announcement of his Ireland squad. As Ulster coach and subject to the
establishment, this was as critical as he probably could get – he must have
been tempted to use much stronger language.

Tyrone Howe: Ulster can compete with best
Thursday, 26 January 2012
It may not be a terribly impressive attempt at poetry, but it still seems
rather apt to cheer, ‘Hip hip hooray for the boys from Galway’. Of course,
Ulster’s losing bonus point against Clermont would have done the trick but,
nonetheless, how much better did it feel sitting down to watch the match in
the full knowledge that qualification for the knock-out stages was secured?

Tyrone Howe: Biggest test waiting just around the corner for McCall
Thursday, 12 January 2012
It is always interesting to track the progress of Ulster Rugby’s exiles. At
Saracens, Mark McCall, appears to be relishing the challenge and he has been
joined by former Ulster fitness and conditioning coach Phil Morrow after the
latter’s involvement with Ireland at the World Cup.

Wednesday, 23 November 2011
As a sportsman, the worst feeling or thought to be left with as you leave the

game, schools’ rugby, or the local club 4th XV — this is a human reaction
and leaves you shaking your head in frustration.
