A fine century from Paul Stirling helped Ireland on their way to an impressive 435 for seven at stumps on day one of their Intercontinental Cup clash with Canada in Dublin.

The 21-year-old smashed 18 fours and two sixes in his knock of 107 off 121 balls after the hosts had won the toss and opted to bat first. He received good support from fellow opener Gary Wilson, the pair enjoying a 155-run stand before Wilson departed for 61.

Alex Cusack made 81 and Kevin O'Brien plundered 79 off just 59 deliveries to keep Ireland's total ticking over nicely at Observatory Lane.

John Mooney (25 not out) and George Dockrell (nine not out) were still there at the close, while Khurram Chohan and Manny Aulakh picked up two wickets apiece for the tourists.
