Derek Sheils strikes deal with newcomers BikeBitsNI

By Paul Lindsay

Bangor-based company BikeBitsNI have secured the services of former Irish Road Racing Superbike champion Derek Sheils to spearhead a full on assault between the hedges in 2015 - with the fledgling team also making their debut at the 'Big Three' internationals.

Run by former club racer and young North Down entrepreneur Jonny Annett, the BikeBitsNI team will campaign Kawasaki machinery in both Superbike and Supersport trim, with Sheils returning to the roads after a very short sabbatical.

It will certainly be a baptism of fire for the Bangor-based squad who have always concentrated their efforts on the short circuit scene in Ireland. Dubliner Sheils will return to the short circuit scene in 2015 also, where team owner Annett believes his new signing can grab some additional headlines this term.

"I'm really excited for the 2015 season now that we have secured the services of a top class rider," said the Bangor lad.

"Kawasaki machinery is also proven on both the roads and the circuits, and I believe we at BikeBitsNI have a really strong package all round going into this season with Derek in the saddle."

Sheils added: "I sat down with Jonny and we cracked out a deal pretty quickly.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back on the roads this year, especially the three big ones at the NW200, Isle of Man TT and Ulster Grand Prix."

BikeBitsNI will also run a Suzuki SV650 in the Irish Short Circuit Supertwin championship with Annett's brother Daniel the chosen pilot.
