Eagles still flying high

BBL Championship leaders Newcastle Eagles maintained their perfect start to the season with a 16th straight league victory.

Charles Smith netted 26 points and contributed six assists as the Eagles held off a spirited challenge from a depleted Cheshire Phoenix side to win 98-91 away from home.

Glasgow Rocks led from start to finish to defeat London Lions 84-71 in the capital, with Marcus Ware scoring 19 points.

Bottom side Manchester Giants were also away winners, ending an eight-game losing streak with a 102-100 win at Plymouth University Raiders.

Stefan Gill led the way with 31 points, closely followed by 27 points from Ingus Bankevics.
