Simon Martin will have a little advantage on his rivals as he goes in search of the AIIB National Singles title at the County Antrim Indoor Bowls Club over the weekend.

The Belfast player has forged his way through to the last four, where he will face Trevor Robinson, from the host club.

Martin is the only semi finalist - County Antrim team mates Alistair Coleman and Andy Kyle meet in the other tie - to have had his hands on the trophy on a previous occasion.

He paraded the silverware back in 2013 and went on to win the British Singles in England.

"It was great to win it before, but it will count for nothing," he said.

"Everyone of the boys will be at the Baker Stadium with the same ambition. I've a tough semi final, I'll be looking no further than that."

Martin begins his title assault this morning. He teams up with John McCullough for a pairs semi final against Sam Barkley and Alistair Coleman.

Meanwhile, Chloe Watson will be involved in every discipline in the Women's Championships, that run in tandem with the men's event.

The Belfast player is again through the final of the Singles and Under-25 Singles - she will defend both trophies - while Watson will also feature in the semi finals of the pairs, triples and fours.
