McFrederick offers the Glens a helping hand

Glentoran manager Alan McDonald has moved to solve his goalkeeping problem by signing Glenavon stopper William McFrederick on a short-term deal.
The former Northern Ireland under-21 international, who will act as back up to Michael Dougherty, has been brought in on a month's loan after it was confirmed by specialists yesterday that regular keeper Elliott Morris' jaw was broken following a collision with Chris Morgan in training last week.
Providing all the necessary paperwork goes through on time, McFrederick will be on the bench for Thursday night's UEFA Cup first qualifying round match with Swedish side AIK Solna.
"Elliott (Morris) has fractured his jaw and is going to be out for between four and six weeks," said McDonald.
"(Glenavon manager) Colin Malone has kindly allowed William McFrederick to join us for a month to act as cover for Michael Dougherty, who will start the game on Thursday and all being well the second leg in Sweden.
"I was in touch with the IFA over the weekend with regards to getting special goalkeeping dispensation and we will get the paperwork sorted out and off to UEFA.
"He was recommended by our goalkeeping coach David McClelland and George Neill knows about him as well.
"He will provide good cover should we need it but Michael goes into the match as number one.
"This is a great opportunity for him to try and cement his place as our first choice goalkeeper.
"I am obviously disappointed for Elliott but Michael is more than capable performing in these games. I had already told both him and Elliott that as far as I was concerned I didn't have a number one and it was up to them to fight it out for that spot. Both of them have worked really hard and it's unfortunate for Elliott but a great chance for Michael."
