Ronaldinho can exit 'with head high'
Premier League clubs will be on alert after the Barcelona president, Joan
Laporta, admitted that both Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o could be on their
way out of the Nou Camp. Laporta insists Ronaldinho will leave and should do
so "with his head held high". Laporta said: "Ronaldinho needs new challenges
and it's normal that when a cycle ends the most emblematic people from that
cycle leave. I'd like him to go with his head held high, because he has
given us so many glorious moments. Eto'o is a player who is loyal to the
club colours, who gives so much. He has also been one of the most emblematic
players of this cycle."
Udinese may let Dossena go
The club are interested in the Italian international defender Andrea
Dossena. Reports from Italy suggest preliminary talks between the clubs have
taken place over the 26-year-old Udinese left-back. Dossena recently signed
a new four and a half year deal but the Serie A club are believed to be
discussing a move, with the asking price thought to be £8m. Cash raised from
the sale of John Arne Riise will help to finance a bid from the relatively
cash-strapped Rafa Benitez. Spurs, as much in need of a left-back as
Liverpool, have also been linked with the player.
Gera considers Benfica move
The midfielder Zoltan Gera is considering a move to Benfica despite the
Baggies' promotion. The Hungarian, 29, said: "I am aware of Benfica's offer.
They are a great club, used to playing in the Champions League. I can only
say good things. I have other offers and I will wait for the best deal. I do
not close the door on anyone."
Yebda gives up dream for JJB
The Le Mans midfielder Hassan Yebda is on the verge of giving up on a dream
move to Benfica in favour of Wigan. The 24-year-old had his heart set on a
move to Portugal, but is on the brink of signing a three-year deal at the
JJB stadium. He has become frustrated by Benfica's attempts to stall the
deal while they complete the search for a new manager.
Lehmann in Stuttgart meeting
Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is on the brink of signing for the German side
Stuttgart after meeting club officials yesterday morning. The 38-year-old
discussed a move before flying to Mallorca with the Germany squad to begin
their Euro 2008 preparations. It is believed Lehmann wants to sort out his
future before next month's European Championships in Austria and
Switzerland. Stuttgart require a new goalkeeper after Raphael Schafer, who
was signed from Nuremberg last summer, failed to live up to expectations.
