Winning feeling: Sergio Aguero salutes his hat-trick for Manchester City

Sergio Aguero was in sparkling form as Manchester City opened their Champions League account with a comfortable 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Etihad Stadium, the Argentine scoring his second European hat-trick of the season including qualifiers.

Defending Premier League kings Leicester City, meanwhile, celebrated their Champions League debut with an excellent 3-0 win away to Club Brugge, with Riyad Mahrez notching a double in Belgium for Claudio Ranieri's side.

However, it wasn't such a good night for Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham, who couldn't pick up an opening win in front of a record 85,011 fans at adopted home Wembley as they marked their return to the elite competition with a 2-1 defeat to AS Monaco.

"We must learn and improve," Pochettino (left) admitted. "Today was a fantastic day to share with our fans, but I feel very disappointed."
