Cristiano Ronaldo's bronze bust may be the worst of all-time - 'Looks more like Niall Quinn to me'
Madeira airport in Portugal has been renamed in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo - with the bronze bust unveiled to toast the momentous occasion greeted with widespread derision.
Ronaldo is never shy of reminding his millions of admirers that he is one of the more dashing sportsmen on the world stage, so he must have been horrified at a ‘tribute’ that can only be viewed as an insult.
The haircut may be the best part of a sculpture that does little to highlight the better qualities of his teeth, face structure or good looks regularly displayed by the Real Madrid and Portugal superstar.
To his credit, Ronaldo smiled through the unveiling of the bronze bust as he tried to pretend he was happy with a statue that will be viewed by travellers who will make their way through Madeira airport for years to come.
Don’t be surprised if Ronaldo commissions his own bronze bust to replace this calamity in the coming months, with Twitter quick to react to the embarrassment with a series of predictably damning tweets.
Joey Barton was among a number of people to suggest that the bust bore more of a similarity to former Republic of Ireland striker Niall Quinn.

The worst bust of all time, to stand there for all future generations to see, that Cristiano Ronaldo looked like a ugly monster pic.twitter.com/Dx13nFquov— Andre Noruega ✌ (@AndreOstgaard) March 29, 2017

The new bust of Cristiano Ronaldo outside the airport in Madeira... Looks like something I would've made for GCSE art class, when I got a D. pic.twitter.com/JxYBzX8H5N— John Bennett (@JohnBennettBBC) March 29, 2017
