A Belfast City Hall date for our homecoming heroes

They say sport and politics should never mix. They have a point. But come tonight such wisdom will be forgotten when Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill and his players attend a special Belfast City Council reception at the City Hall to celebrate reaching the Euro 2016 finals.

The squad may have to get used to events like this in the run up to France.

It is quite right that the side's achievements should be recognised by all in Northern Ireland and you never know, the spirit and camaraderie of O'Neill's team may rub off on the politicians in attendance!

Another good idea would be to see if any of the lads are available to help with the official switching on of Belfast's Christmas lights on Saturday night, joining Cool FM's excellent Breakfast presenters Pete Snodden, Paulo Ross and Rebecca McKinney, the Gruffalo and other guests on stage.
