Euro 2016: Creators of flag believed in Northern Ireland Lyon win

By Adrian Rutherford

This is the flag which proudly proclaims Northern Ireland's football heroes as Kings of Lyon. But a canny group of friends from Bangor had it made long before Thursday night's victory over Ukraine.

They always believed Northern Ireland could win the game, and commissioned it before they left for France.

Over the last few days the flag has proved popular with fans, who are queuing up to have their photos taken with it. They include Ulster Rugby player Stuart McCloskey.

"We were all going to the Ukraine game and were going to be in Lyon," said Richard Larmour, who is part of the group.

"You have the band Kings of Leon, so we thought it might be a good name for it.

"The headlines were all about the team being Kings of Lyon afterwards - we should have copyrighted it. We have taken it everywhere with us, we had it in the town square and everywhere it has been people have flocked to have their photo with it."

Yesterday it arrived in Paris, where Northern Ireland play the Germans tomorrow.

Richard believes we are capable of getting the point which should see us through.
