Forget Will Grigg - there's a new chant in town for Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 hero Michael McGovern.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper pulled off a string of superb saves to keep World Champions Germany at bay in Paris on Tuesday night.

The Enniskillen man foiled the Germans seven times meaning Northern Ireland sneaked through three hours after the final whistle because they had a better goal difference than rivals Turkey.

The elated Green and White Army were immediately calling for a knighthood for the Enniskillen man - with many requesting a chant for the hero.

On Thursday he was named the best goalkeeper of the first phase of the Euro 2016 tournament.

While fans have stayed in strong voice with the now infamous 'Will Grigg's on fire'- despite the Wigan footballer having not yet touched the ball - their attention has turned to a song for Michael McGovern.

And one fan has risen to the challenge - and you should already know the tune as it's to the Wild Rover.

Matty Guy (25) from Portadown penned the song after being challenged by his friends.

Magnificent seven: Save Seven
Magnificent seven: Save Seven
Magnificent seven: Save Six
Magnificent seven: Save Five
Magnificent seven: Save Four
Magnificent seven: Save three
Magnificent seven: Save Two
Magnificent seven: Save One

He has been a Northern Ireland fan since 2005 and was in Lyon last week to see the side's victory over Ukraine which he said was a "lifetime experience".

He sat down and in one night came up with the lyrics.

He hopes the song will be a success adding that it's the least the fans can do.

He said: "A chant is the least we can do for him, he really should get a Knighthood but, failing that, a good chant seems like the next best thing."

The team will now play Wales on Saturday in the knock-out stages of the competition and here are the lyrics so you can learn the song ahead of the game.

Mike McGovern lyrics:

I’ve loved Mike McGovern for manys a year

For he’s the goalkeeper all strikers should fear

In between the woodwork he stands proud and tall

And there’s none quite like Mike with their hands to a ball

And it’s Mike McGovern, Mike McGovern for me

He made 60 saves, ‘gainst Germany

He hails from Fermanagh, a man of Lough Earne

And that’s where he all his goalkeeping skills did learn

He plays for the Accies, they might sell him on

He’ll be keeper at Bayern Munich before long

And it’s Mike McGovern, Mike McGovern for me

He made 60 saves, ‘gainst Germany

When Mario Gomez arrived in Paris

He thought “Mike McGovern, well who could he be?”

But then the proud German attack came undone

They thought they’d score 10 but they only scored one

And it’s Mike McGovern, Mike McGovern for me

He made 60 saves, ‘gainst Germany

What's next for Michael McGovern?

McGovern started off at Celtic, and went on to play for a number of Scottish clubs, including Ross County and Falkirk.

He is currently with Hamilton Academical, but is out of contract at the end of the month.

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are keen on the Enniskillen man as well as interest from several English clubs following his stunning performance.
