Euro 2016: Perfect fans have made us feel like One Direction, reveals Steven Davis

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis has revealed that some of his team-mates felt like boyband One Direction after their big homecoming party in Belfast on Monday night.

Around 10,000 fans turned out at the Titanic Quarter to roar their appreciation for the Northern Ireland players, who a few hours earlier had flown back from France after being knocked out of the Euro 2016 finals by Wales in the last 16.

Davis received a rapturous ovation when he made his way to the stage, admitting he couldn't believe the reception.

"It was incredible. Words don't really do it justice. The support the fans gave us throughout the whole tournament and on Monday night was the icing on the cake for us," said the midfielder.

"When we left you would never have thought that we would be coming back to a reception like that. It was unreal. It has been an incredible journey and that was a nice way to end it.

"A few of the lads thought they were in One Direction being on the stage and looking down on so many fans. It was a great experience.

"To get that turnout after people had paid money to go out and watch the games in France and to go to the Titanic Quarter to watch games in Belfast just shows how great our fans are."
