Ryanair sparked fury on social media when they referred to the France Euro 2016 team as “cheating b******s”.

After Les Bleus scored a penalty from a German handball the airline took to Twitter to insult them.

“Wait a minute, so they do know what handball is in France? #NeverForget #CheatingBastards #FRAGER #RyanairEuros”

Someone on the Ryanair social media team clearly isn’t over the infamous handball incident by France striker Thierry Henry that advanced France in the 2010 World Cup at the expense of Republic of Ireland.

French fans weren’t impressed with the online quip.

Justin Bibine said: "I'm french and I will never fly with #Ryanair which is full of douche and French haters!"

Jean Louis Gagnaire tweeted: "After #cheatingbastard of @Ryanair about the #EquipeDeFrance I will avoid their #boycott #shittyairplanefood?"

A user called Ugrilainen said: "I love Ireland, they have the best football fans in the world. Except for #Ryanair #RyanairEuro."

While another French fan attempted to insult the company with a confusing Brexit tweet.

Christian Cadiou said: "Ryanair insult us... Fortunately they are no longer part of Europe! #Brexit #Ryanair..."

Ryanair has been a constant critic of the French football team rooting for Germany on Twitter.

The tweet was quickly taken down and the airline apologised.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “One of our social media team still hasn’t gotten over Thierry Henry’s cheating in 2009, and has also had their holidays disrupted thanks to the recent French ATC strikes.

“Please excuse their ‘French’. We wish both teams the best of luck in the final in Paris on Sunday.”
