Gareth Bale: The ultimate goal for us is to win Euro 2016, but all our focus now is on Northern Ireland

By Steven Beacom in Lyon

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis has revealed how much his team are savouring the prospect of trying to stop Welsh superstar Gareth Bale in tomorrow's Euro 2016 showdown in Paris.

Real Madrid hero Bale has scored in all three games he has played in the tournament so far and intends to keep that run going against Michael O'Neill's men in the last 16 clash, but Davis insists Northern Ireland have other ideas.

Excitement is building ahead of the mouthwatering clash, with Bale saying: "The ultimate goal for us is to win the tournament, but all our focus now is on Northern Ireland."

Writing in his Euro 2016 Belfast Telegraph column, Davis said: "In Gareth Bale they have one of the best players in the world. We will definitely need to stop him. He plays a massive part for them but our defence is strong and will relish the challenge of taking on Gareth.

"It is a game we really believe we can win."
