Rangers fans say best team won
Friday, 16 May 2008
If there was one complaint among the massed ranks of Rangers support about the footballing outcome of Wednesday's Uefa Cup final against Zenit St Petersburg, it has yet to be voiced.
There was regret that a tiny minority of drunken idiots had reacted to a broken big screen by lobbing bottles and assaulting policemen, tarring by association some 150,000 others who had a peaceful party in Manchester.
But the unanimous verdict on what happened on the pitch was: "The best team won." Zenit's Andrei Arshavin in particular shone, but Dick Advocaat's entire team contributed to a fine, passing victory.
The question now is can Rangers continue to show the resolve and collective will to win in the season's final four games.
Three SPL games remain, all away, starting at Motherwell tomorrow, then St Mirren on Monday and Aberdeen on Thursday. Win all three and they will be champions, with a Scottish Cup final to come on 24 May against Queen of the South. Anything less and they become dependent on what Celtic do at Dundee United on Thursday.
