Fabio Capello has been sacked from his £7 million per year job as Russia's head coach.

The 69-year-old Italian took up the role in July 2012, shortly after his resignation as England boss, and led them to the World Cup finals last summer.

In that qualifying campaign, Capello famously described Michael O'Neill's team as 'only Northern Ireland'. He was reminded of that after his Russian team lost 1-0 in Belfast.

Russia failed to win a match in the World Cup finals in Brazil while their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign has also struggled to get off the ground, with the team lying third in Group G having picked up just two wins from six matches. Even so it is understood he has landed a £10 million pay-off.
