A defiant Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will bite back after their Champions League assault started with a whimper.

Olivier Giroud was sent off as they lost 2-1 at Dinamo Zagreb.

Dinamo went in front after an own goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and after Giroud's dismissal in the 40th minute, the home side doubled their lead with a powerful header from Junior Fernandes.

Theo Walcott grabbed a late consolation but Wenger said: "It is not the way we wanted to begin the competition. We were a bit unlucky. We faced a Zagreb team who were committed.

"We gave it all until the end but unfortunately couldn't come back. The first yellow for Olivier Giroud is a foul for us and the second is an accident. We have enough games to come back."

Chelsea, meanwhile, responded to their poor start to the Premier League season with a 4-0 win against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
