Jose Mourinho took a swipe at Paul Pogba's critics after the midfielder sliced open Fenerbahce last night.

The £89million signing scored twice as United cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory at Old Trafford which lifts them to second place in Europa League Group A.

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were also on target before United old boy Robin van Persie grabbed a late consolation.

United boss Mourinho was thrilled as the midfielder shut up a few critics who slammed his performance in the scoreless draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday.

"Two days ago he was the worst player in the Premier League and 48 hours later he's phenomenal," said Mourinho. "He needs time. I'm happy with his performance because he gave us what we need."

Wayne Rooney returned to the United side, but it was Pogba and Martial who took over penalty taking duties with success.
