Video: Bayer Leverkusen star Emir Spahic headbutts a steward after defeat to Bayern Munich

Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Emir Spahic is facing a lengthy ban and an investigation from German police after footage emerged of him headbutting a steward following his side's cup defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Fan footage of the incident appeared on the website of German newspaper Bild and could see the 34-year-old Bosnian international suffer serious ramifications.

Spahic appears to headbutt a steward at the BayArena following his side's loss to the German champions 5-3 on penalties in the DFB-Pokal Cup.

Bayer confirmed they have passed their findings of the incident to the public prosecutor in Cologne, and an investigation is pending. The club confirmed that Spahic is set to issue an apology for the incident.

A Bayer spokesman said: "It is clear that there has been a physical dispute after the final whistle. We will review the incident and try to clarify now who was there and why they were there."

It is reported in Bild that the stewards prevented his friend from moving from part of the stadium to another and after he was restrained by stewards, he approaches one of them and hits him with a headbutt.
