Vieri calls time on goal-laden career
Friday, 23 October 2009
Former Italy international Christian Vieri last night announced his retirement from football.
The 36-year-old had been without a club since agreeing to end his contract with Atalanta in April.
Vieri began his playing career with Torino, but it was at city rivals Juventus where the Bologna-born forward began to make his mark.
“I don't want to play anymore and I'm not even tempted to play abroad,” Vieri said.
He joined Inter in 1999 for a world-record £32million and went on to score 103 goals in 144 league appearances for the Nerazzurri in his six-year stint with the club.
For the national team, Vieri scored 23 goals in 49 appearances.
