I don't hold a grudge against Cristiano Ronaldo - says Man United boss Alex Ferguson
Tuesday, 14 July 2009
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson today sent his best wishes to Cristiano Ronaldo declaring that he holds no grudges against the £80 million man for quitting Old Trafford for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo flew into Ireland last night with his new team-mates for a nine day training camp, which will include a friendly next Monday with Shamrock Rovers.
Ronaldo is expected to play his first game for Madrid against the Dublin outfit, who are managed by former Northern Ireland star Michael O’Neill.
The Portugal superstar will do so with the blessing of his old boss, who after trying to keep Ronaldo bowed to the inevitable earlier this summer when Real agreed to cough up a world record fee for the 24-year-old.

It ended a six-year association with the Red Devils, during which time Ronaldo was transformed from a raw teenager with too many flicks to become the best player in the world.
Ferguson said: “I had a good relationship with the boy but I never, ever thought we were going to keep him for a long time.
“We are proud and pleased to have him for six years. He has this opportunity to take another challenge and I respect him for that. He was a fantastic player for us, a good lad and gave us no problems. We wish him well.”
As well as Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy were among the Madrid entourage who took part in their first Irish training session today.

They are managed by Irishman Michael O Neill. Is it that hard for the Belfast telegraph to say so? Do you have to keep your BS 6-county rhetoric in our faces? I was born in Ireland, in Belfast. I have an Irish passport. I am an Irishman, not a Northern Ireland person, not a northern Irishman, not from THE province...but from Ireland. Your bigoted journalism stinks to high heaven.

Why should he? Ronaldo has been good to him and he has been good to Ronaldo. Ronaldo showed a lot more class than Tevez by praising his old boss.

As a United fan I think Ferguson should leave now. He knew that Ronaldo was leavingf United last January and when asked on Man Utd TV since last Xmas he said that Ronaldo was going nowhere. now Ferguson has said he's not buying any more players this summer, having just spent £20 million out of the £100 million kitty he had. Fergie was kept at United as the owner's stooge - time to leave Fergie. you lied to the fans.
