IFA scores with huge Sky deal
Friday, 27 April 2007
The IFA has agreed a multi-million pound deal with Sky Sports to cover Northern Ireland games in the next World Cup qualifying campaign. It is understood the package could be worth around £10m.
Sky beat off competition from BBC Northern Ireland and Setanta Sports.
BBC Northern Ireland's Head of Sport, Shane Glynn, said he was "deeply disappointed" that Sky had won the sought-after contract.
He added: "The IFA's representatives were due to hold another meeting next week to discuss the terms of our formal offer. We had indicated a willingness to increase the terms of our current contract, but were never afforded the opportunity."
