Fletcher in for Scotland

Published 13/11/2009

Manchester United star Darren Fletcher is expected to figure for Scotland in tomorrow’s friendly against Wales in Cardiff.

There were some concerns Fletcher could be doubtful for the encounter having missed training on Wednesday, but the Manmidfielder returned to the fold yesterday.

The news will come as a big boost to manager George Burley, who has already seen Craig Gordon, Kevin Thomson and Steven Whittaker withdraw, while Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney were unavailable for inclusion before the squad was named.

“Everyone's fine,” said assistant boss Paul Hegarty.

On Fletcher, he added: “Everyone knows how good a player he is — he's playing for one of the best clubs in the world.”

Craig Bellamy, James Collins, Jack Collison, Simon Davies and Chris Gunter have all pulled out of the Wales squad, while Boaz Myhill, Neal Eardley and David Vaughan were not considered for international duty because of existing injuries.
