Furness strike the highlight of miserable night for NI
Northern Ireland 1 -8 Switzerland
Rachel Furness marked her 50th appearance for Northern Ireland with a goal, but there was very little else to celebrate as Switzerland scored eight in reply to go three points clear at the top of their Women's Euro 2017 qualifying group.
Furness struck a stunning long-range shot after 37 minutes to make her memorable night that bit more special, but by that stage the Swiss had already scored five times and there was no way back for Alfie Wylie's girls.
Switzerland, who scored 10 against Ecuador at the World Cup in June, were already piling the pressure on before Fabienne Humm put them 1-0 after 14 minutes when she snapped up the rebound when Emma Higgins saved Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic's shot.
Northern Ireland then conceded four times in a whirlwind eight-minute period as the Swiss really stepped on the gas.
Rahel Kiwic headed home the second on 28 minutes and the next four goals were only five minutes apart.
Martina Moser fired a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner in the 33rd minute, Humm got her second of the game after meeting Lara Dickenmann's corner two minutes later and Florijana Ismaili finished a slick move on 36.
Furness did at least have the crowd on their feet when she smashed home from 30 yards a minute later.
Crnogorcevic hit Switzerland's six just before the hour mark and the rout was completed in the final 14 minutes with substitute Barla Deplazes and Dickenmann on target.
