Healy is keen to right a wrong against Hungary

Wednesday, 19 November 2008

David Healy has a score to settle — and tonight’s the night to do it.

David Healy officially launched his new DVD, David Healy: The Talisman, yesterday

Way back in 2000, when he was just a rookie at international level, Hungary were the first team to stop David Healy from scoring at international level — something which even the might of England, Spain, Sweden and Denmark have failed to do.

It was a new experience for the 20-year-old, who had got his Northern Ireland career off to a flying start in his two earlier outings

Eight-and-a-half years on, the Hungarians return to Windsor Park this evening to face Healy the record breaker, after becoming not just his country’s, but Europe’s leading marksman after firing home 13 goals in 12 games during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

The 35 goals he has scored in 69 appearances so far have more than made up for that disappointment in April 2000, but Healy still wants to be able to list Hungary as a team he has scored against.

“We’d played in Luxembourg and Malta in my first two games and I’d scored in both those,” said Healy.

“I didn’t score against them that time, hopefully this gives me a chance to right the wrongs of eight and a half years ago.

“We want to beat Hungary and from what I recall the last time we should have beaten them then.”

Healy yesterday officially launched his new DVD, entitled : David Healy, The Talisman.

Every one of those record breaking 13 goals in the last European series is on there, along with an exclusive interview with UEFA President Michel Platini, who presented Healy with an award to recognise the achievement.

If Chelsea can be the kings of Europe, so can England

One of the consequences of the late finish in Munich and the chaotic transport arrangements after the Champions League final was to force the ‘great and the good’ of the English football media to gather on a station platform near the Arena for a promised train to the city centre that, ultimately, never arrived.

What an epic battle the Champions League Final turned out to be. A clash between an organisation with a long and distinguished history, respected by friend and foe alike up against a relative newcomer, the plaything of a foreign oligarch, who is universally viewed with raised eyebrows.
