Healy: My anger at Nigel Worthington's Hungary rant
Tuesday, 9 December 2008

David Healy shows his disappointment after Northern Ireland's defeat to Hungary at Windsor Park. Healy says manager Nigel Worthington was critical of players following the game
David Healy last night revealed his anger after Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington’s rant at his players following the dismal defeat to Hungary last month.
Since that awful performance there have even been suggestions that Healy may face the axe.
With fellow strikers Kyle Lafferty and Martin Paterson both finding the net for Rangers and Burnley respectively at the weekend, whether Healy faces San Marino when the World Cup qualifying campaign gets underway again in February is now open to question.
Healy revealed: "I was disappointed with some of the comments after the Hungary game. Nigel basically blamed the players which was disappointing. There were five or six of us who weren't playing regularly. Now it's being said that with Kyle Lafferty scoring goals for Rangers, Martin Paterson scoring goals for Burnley, is the axe going to fall and is he going to do the unthinkable and leave the hero; the messiah, out of the team?
"If Nigel wants to make a stand and make a point coming into the qualifiers where if club players aren't in the team and leave me out that comes down to him to make the big decisions at the right times," said Healy.
"If the big decision is going to come, if the axe is going to come down on me it's down to Nigel.
"I have proved in the past that I can come back and play for Northern Ireland. People forget that I'd a lot of tough times, a lot of games where I wasn't 100 per cent fit.”

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

Gareth, not to mention Fearon's probable angst over Healy's "anger at Nigel Worthington's Hungary rant" which is surely a reference to the hunger-strikers.

Be careful, after the goal 'famine' and flute joke we will have fearon on here saying how insulting to the nationalist community it is for Healy to refer to 'the messiah' in such a sectarian manner....

Who has put in, ( is the axe going to fall and is he going to do the unthinkable and leave the hero; the messiah, out of the team?
Healy or the jounalist? as in the tele paper version it reads as
"Now it's being said that with Kyle Lafferty scoring goals for Rangers, Martin Paterson scoring goals for Burnley, is the axe going to fall on me, it's down to Nigel.
I have proved in the past that I can come back and play for Northern Ireland. People forget that I'd a lot of tough times, a lot of games where I wasn't 100 per cent fit.

Gareth - Healy never said he was the messiah. Read the story he was making the point that others have said that about him. Agree with Keith, Worthington was out of order.

Describing himself as 'the hero' and 'the Messiah' suggests that Healy now holds a very high opinion of himself and that his absence from the team is unthinkable. Sounds as though all the success and adoration he has enjoyed over the last few years has gone to his head and that he now regards himself more inportant than the manager and the team.

Can't believe Healy has referred to himself as "the Messiah"...steady on there Davy Boy...getting slightly carried away methinks!

Healy is right. Nigel should never have slated our players in the press.
Nigel seems to have lost the dressing room. Players don't have the same belief since Nigel took over.
